Mount Vernon Alabama is still waiting. Waiting for the man from TK with the wheel barrow full of money to pull up in front of the house and ask; "Where do you want it?" We all thought that with the anouncement a year ago, that the new mill, going in right up the road, we would all instantly become welthy. I would settle for a job there. I don't see anyone knocking on my door. I have tried to do everything that I have heard I was supposed to do to get on there, but no, nothing. Can't even get a call back from one of the contractors up there. I get up everyday and go on in to work and that's what I intend to keep right on doing.waiting and watching to see what happens. Time will tell. Will we here in Mount Vernon see our town grow, be reborn, or will we just see TK travel through here in droves on the way to our mill. To work our jobs. Time will tell.

I'm just a worker. I live in Mount Vernon. I love this little town, but we have our problems. Mount Vernon excited about the new TK steel mill going in up the road, but I think we'll all be disappointed. The lack of funds and forward thinking of the leaders in this town has stagnated any chance we would have ever had to grow as a result of our new neighbor, TK. I'm glad the area's getting the new mill, but I don't see Mount Vernon's fortunes changing. Our town just does not have the infrastructure to lure new commercial or residential development. And I hate to say that. I would love for the quality of life to improve in this town, I just don't see it.
